Suntide beta terms of service
Version 1.0 · Effective 7 September 2026 · Updated 23 September 2026 · These terms govern the Suntide beta.
The short version
You’re joining the beta of Suntide, a service that watches your solar and battery system, tells you what it’s earning, suggests improvements and, on supported equipment, can make changes for you. It’s early software: things will occasionally break or change.
Suntide reads your system and makes recommendations. On supported inverters it can also change settings: it keeps the inverter’s clock right, changes the charge schedule when you apply a change, and, once you switch on a feature that does this for you, adjusts charging and runs grid-services events you have joined. Section 6 says exactly what it changes, when, and how to switch each part off.
Our suggestions are estimates, not guarantees. You can leave, and delete your account, at any time. This summary is for convenience; the terms below are what applies.
1. Who we are, and what these terms cover
1.1 Suntide is a product of Weftworks Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17439248, registered office 2 Ravenscroft Gardens, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 7JU) (“Suntide”, “we”, “us”). The company was called Suntide Limited until 16 September 2026; only its name changed.
1.2 These terms are a contract between Weftworks Limited and you for the use of the Suntide service at suntide.energy during its beta period, including the web and phone apps, data collection, health checks, control of supported equipment, and any emails or reports the service sends (“the Service”).
1.3 “Your system” means the solar and/or battery installation you connect to Suntide, and any smart meter, electric car charger or smart plug you connect with it. “Manufacturer platform” means the third-party cloud service (such as SolisCloud or the GivEnergy cloud) that your equipment reports to.
2. The Service, plainly
2.1 Suntide collects readings from your system roughly every five minutes (more often from a Suntide Link), plus a daily snapshot of its configuration, and data from your smart meter, car charger or smart plug if you connect them, using credentials you provide or a Suntide device you install.
2.2 Suntide analyses that data against your goals and electricity tariff and presents dashboards, a configuration health score, findings with estimated cost impacts, and (as the beta develops) statements, digests and alerts.
2.3 Suntide can control supported equipment. Section 6 sets out what it changes, which changes happen only when you apply them, and which happen automatically once you have switched a feature on. Findings are recommendations: you decide whether to act on them, and Suntide then checks the effect from later data.
2.3A Suntide does not take ownership of your system, your manufacturer’s account or your energy data. You remain in control of your equipment and decide whether to act on any recommendation Suntide provides.
2.4 The Service depends on systems we don’t control: manufacturer platforms and APIs, your equipment and home network, cloud infrastructure and tariff data sources. We can’t guarantee those systems remain available or provide complete, accurate or timely data, and the Service may degrade or become unavailable when they don’t.
We may have to change, restrict or discontinue support for a particular manufacturer or model if its API, authentication method, terms or technical capabilities change.
2.5 Savings and impact figures are estimates derived from your measured data and tariff. They depend on weather, usage, prices and equipment behaviour. They are not promises or guarantees. Findings and recommendations are provided as software analysis and are not financial, electrical, engineering, installation or other professional advice. You remain responsible for deciding whether a suggested change is appropriate for your system, installation, warranty, electricity tariff and circumstances.
Suntide is not a financial adviser.
3. Beta status
3.1 The Service is pre-release. Features may change, be withdrawn, or misbehave; availability is not guaranteed and no service level is offered.
3.2 We intend to carry your data forward into the released product, and will make reasonable efforts to do so, but we reserve the right to reset beta data where technically necessary. We’ll tell you before doing so if we can.
3.3 Beta access is complimentary or discounted at our discretion (for example via a gift code) and may be modified or withdrawn. If you take a paid subscription, section 9 applies.
4. Joining and eligibility
4.1 You must be 18 or over, resident in the United Kingdom (or in Ireland or Australia while Suntide’s pilots there run), and hold or be authorised to manage the household energy account for the property.
4.2 One household per account. Keep your login secure; you’re responsible for activity under your account.
4.3 You confirm that you have the right to connect your system: you own it, or the owner has authorised you.
5. Your side of the deal
5.1 Provide accurate information, including credentials and tariff details; the analysis is only as honest as its inputs.
5.2 Don’t attempt to probe, overload, reverse-engineer or misuse the Service, and don’t use it for any unlawful purpose.
5.3 By providing a credential, you authorise Suntide to access your manufacturer account or system using it, to retrieve the data needed to provide the Service and, on supported equipment, to make the changes described in section 6. If a manufacturer offers read-only access and you would rather Suntide made no changes, you may use that; the features that need control will then not work. You confirm that you are authorised to give Suntide this access and that doing so does not breach any agreement you have with the manufacturer, installer or other relevant party.
5.4 Manufacturer platforms have their own terms and privacy policies between you and them. Keeping your side of those (for example, API access conditions) is your responsibility.
6. Controlling your equipment
6.1 What Suntide changes. On supported inverters (currently Solis and Fox ESS, through their own cloud platforms), Suntide may change:
- the charge and discharge schedule;
- the charge current;
- on Fox ESS, a setting that holds the battery’s charge in place while an event runs or the battery guard is holding, always put back to the value Suntide found; and
- on Solis, the inverter’s clock.
Suntide does not change grid-protection or safety shutdown settings. It does not currently control electric car chargers. A Suntide Plug switches only when you tell it to. A Suntide Link reads your inverter and does not write to it.
6.2 When it changes them.
- When you apply a change: a schedule change you make in the phone app is shown to you first and sent only when you confirm it.
- Automatically, once a feature is on: keeping the inverter’s clock correct (daily); keeping the charge current in line with a schedule you applied; grid-services events you have joined in automatic mode, including charging the battery beforehand where an event needs it; car charging protection for smart-charging tariffs; and the battery guard, for households with an electric car and a supported inverter that switch it on. You can switch each of these off in the app.
- When Suntide puts things back: when you leave a programme, when access pauses (section 9.2), and before your account is deleted, Suntide puts your own settings back on your inverter.
- Letting Suntide steer. Needs your agreement in the app, which you can withdraw or pause at any time. Until you agree, Suntide watches: it shows its plan and changes nothing. In Steer, Suntide applies its plan to your inverter itself, within the bounds shown in the app, and tells you what it changed. Steering only ever changes the charge and discharge schedule and the charge current (6.1); it never switches charging off, never changes a schedule you edited since its plan was made, and stops after a change it cannot confirm.
6.3 Your agreement. By accepting these terms you authorise the changes in 6.1 and 6.2. You can switch off any automatic feature, leave a programme, or disconnect a service at any time.
6.4 Safeguards and limits.
- Before a schedule change, Suntide checks your equipment’s current settings; afterwards it reads them back to verify the change, and reports a change it cannot confirm as failed.
- We may stop all changes at any time, for everyone, without notice (a safety switch).
- Changing schedules changes when and how your battery charges, which affects your energy costs and battery use.
- We cannot guarantee that a manufacturer’s platform or your equipment will accept, keep or correctly apply a change. The order of authority is always: your equipment’s safety controls, then its firmware, then a Suntide change. Suntide is never the safety system.
- Each change is recorded: what asked for it, the settings before, what was sent, and the read-back. Change records are kept for 90 days, and the account’s activity record for the life of the account.
- Some manufacturers restrict third-party control or may treat it as affecting warranty. Checking your warranty position is your responsibility.
6.5 A successful change or read-back does not guarantee that the equipment will then behave as expected.
7. Feedback
We may use feedback you give during the beta to improve the product, without restriction or payment. We’re not obliged to implement anything (though we probably will: it’s why we run a beta).
8. Your data and our software
8.1 You own your data. We process it to provide the Service, as described in the privacy policy.
8.2 You grant us a licence to use your system’s telemetry and configuration data (a) to provide the Service to you, and (b) in anonymised and aggregated form, never identifying you or your household, to improve the product for everyone: refining our device support, benchmarks and analysis. We do not sell your data and we do not share individual data for advertising.
8.3 We own the Service, its software, design and content. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use it, nothing more.
9. Paying for Suntide
9.1 Plans and prices are shown in the app (currently Watch £3.99/month and Optimise £7.99/month or £79/year, VAT included).
9.2 The free trial, exactly. A 30-day trial of the full product runs from the first day live data arrives from your system or your smart meter. The start date is recorded once, so disconnecting and reconnecting a service does not restart it. No card is taken and no plan is chosen for it.
The trial never turns into a paid subscription by itself. Nothing is ever charged unless you choose a paid plan and enter payment details yourself.
Every feature of Suntide is a paid feature, including monitoring. If your trial ends, or a paid plan or complimentary access ends, and no plan has been chosen, those features pause on that day. Before pausing, Suntide puts your equipment back on its own settings.
Your account remains available while it is paused: you can still sign in, choose a plan, redeem a code, download your data, delete your account, contact support, disconnect services you connected, and switch a Suntide Plug on and off. We keep collecting your readings for six months so your history has no gap if you come back, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can subscribe at any time to resume.
We will email you a week before and the day before a trial ends, and two weeks and three days before time-limited complimentary access ends.
If you subscribe while trial days remain, those remaining trial days continue to count and billing starts when the trial would otherwise have ended.
9.3 Payment is by subscription through Stripe. You can pay by card and, depending on your device and where you are, by Apple Pay, Google Pay or Direct Debit from a UK bank account. Unless you have cancelled, a paid subscription renews automatically at the end of each paid period.
You can cancel at any time from Manage billing, with no need to contact anyone. Cancellation stops future renewals, and your subscription remains active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Your renewal date and the applicable renewal price are shown in Manage billing. We will give you any renewal notice required by law.
9.4 Cooling-off. If you subscribe as a consumer, you normally have a 14-day cooling-off period starting when the paid subscription contract is entered into.
By subscribing, you expressly ask us to begin providing the paid Service immediately. If you cancel during the cooling-off period after the Service has started, you remain responsible for a proportionate amount for the Service supplied up to the time you cancel. We will refund any remaining amount due to you. If the Service has not started when you cancel, we will provide a full refund, subject to your statutory rights.
Nothing in this section limits any cancellation or refund right you have under applicable consumer law.
9.5 Price changes never apply to a paid period that has already started. We will notify you of any price increase before it takes effect and will provide any cancellation rights required by law.
10. Ending things
10.1 You can stop using Suntide at any time. Deleting your account in Settings takes effect straight away. Any subscription is cancelled first. If Suntide is still putting your equipment back on its own settings, deletion waits until that is done, usually a few minutes. Your account, credentials, readings and history are then permanently deleted from our main database, with no grace period.
Some information is kept after deletion, as the privacy policy sets out: payment records the law requires us to keep (without your name, email or address), support tickets, records held against a Suntide device until they expire, and backups and logs for limited periods.
10.2 We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and may end the beta itself with reasonable notice.
11. Liability
11.1 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, are unaffected.
11.2 We owe you reasonable care and skill in providing the Service, and nothing below excludes liability for our failure to provide it.
This includes the changes Suntide makes to your equipment under section 6. Subject to 11.1, we are not liable for the acts, omissions, outages or withdrawal of manufacturer platforms or APIs; the behaviour or condition of your equipment; your energy supply; the outcome of decisions you make when choosing to act on an estimate or recommendation or to switch on a feature; or losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms.
In short: if our Service, including a change Suntide makes for you, is provided without reasonable care and skill, that’s on us; if you consider a recommendation and choose to act on it, or choose to switch on a feature, that choice is yours.
11.3 Subject to 11.1, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or £100 if you paid nothing.
12. General
12.1 We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed with reasonable notice. Where the law requires your express agreement to a change, we will ask for it. Otherwise, continued use after the effective date will constitute acceptance. The version and date at the top always tell you which version applies.
12.2 We may assign this agreement within a reorganisation of our group; you may not assign it. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stands. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
12.3 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring claims in your local UK courts, and nothing here affects rights you have under the law of the place you live.
12.4 Questions: support@suntide.energy. To make a formal complaint, email the same address with “Complaint” in the subject line; we’ll acknowledge it promptly and aim to give you a substantive response within 14 days.
